We use a variety of styles of music in St John’s, and each has its place. We try to use the best of old and new music, and to combine both in worship on a regular basis.

THE CHOIR
Although small in size, the choir aims at a high standard of musicianship, leading the congregation and contributing items on its own. The majority of our sung services are led by choir and organ.
Choir Practice is on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in the Choir Vestry.

THE MUSIC GROUP
The music group uses a wide range of more contemporary music, with a strong emphasis on Iona and Taizé and modern catholic items. The music group provides music for the monthly All Age Parish Communion, and regularly combines with choir and organ on other occasions. Joining with ecumenical friends as the Mixed Blessings Music Group, it is well-known locally and contributes to the musical life of many churches.
The Music Group practices on Friday evenings at 7.30pm; enter through the Choir Vestry.

WESTSIDE YOUTH CHOIR
This choir club is for children of Junior School age to practice singing and learn about musical notation and signs. A wide variety of accessible music is sung in a friendly atmosphere.
The Youth Choir meets for 50 minutes at 6.30pm on Thursday evenings in term time in the Choir Vestry.

THE ORGAN
Built by Nicholsons, and cared for by Trevor Tipple, this fine and well-appointed organ has been added to and refined for well over a century.
