It’s
a pleasure to welcome you to St John’s church. The church is people first
and foremost, but St John’s is a lovely historic building as well. I
hope these pages will give you a flavour of who we are and what we are like. The
church building dates back to 1165. At that time the settlement called St John’s
was separate from Worcester, but belonged to the cathedral priory; links with
the cathedral exist to this day. The church gave its name to the community
around it, and there is a strong sense of church and community belonging to
one another which is valued by us all. Nowadays the whole of West Worcester
is commonly known as ‘St John’s’.

St
John’s church is a living place of worship and prayer, and has been continuously
since its foundation. In the midst of a busy world it is a haven of stillness
and sanity, and we welcome you as you enter this site to experience something
of it. May
God’s blessing be upon you.

St
John’s is part of the West Worcester Group Ministry, including also the
Anglican churches of St Clement Worcester, St Michael Dines Green, St Thomas
Crown East (Rushwick), and Christ Church Broadheath. All of those churches
are part of a local ecumenical covenant with Bromyard Road Methodist Church,
Bromwich Road Mission, and Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church.
We join regularly for worship and study, and together we serve the community
through the West Worcester Live at Home Scheme and the Cuppa and Chat. |
